Harry Houdini

Harry Houdini "Scary" is a 2005 model Trakehner bred by Kim Hunter of Twin Gates Farm. Scary is a lovely little guy with an intelligent eye, a kind temperament, and grand work ethic. He has a beautiful classic Trakehner look to him and big wide set puppy dog eyes (which he uses quite effectively when begging for cookies). Scary is a very quiet ‘sit back and take it all in’ kind of guy and when he was a baby Kim was unable to distinguish whether or not he was very smart, or just really stupid. Luckily he grew up to be a smarty pants. He is only 16.1h but feels much larger and shows off by puffing up and strutting like GP dressage horse when in public. He also has floppy warmblood ears, which I love.

Harry Houdini’s name: Harry received the name Harry Houdini because when he was born rather than the amniotic sac being milky-colored, it was red. The placenta had apparently detached and filled with blood. Jan Walling, owner of Quail Run Farm, quickly made an opening in the sack and held Harry’s nose & mouth in her hands while he was born. The foal was named Houdini because of his narrow "escape".

When Harry was weaned he was put in with a 33 yr old Paso Fino babysitter named Shorty. Harry took great delight in big-trotting up to Shorty to scare him. Pretty soon Shorty would scamper away when he saw Harry being led to the paddock. So again, Harry is self-named, this time for his nickname Scary Houdini.
