Sigal

My first horse was Sigal, a 1988 Trakehner mare by an ATA stallion named Sobek. I brought Sigal with me from NJ in 1998.Together we evented through Training level and also competed in schooling hunter/jumper and dressage shows. Sigal’s last competition was a NTHJC schooling jumper show at Las Colinas where she won Champion Jumper.

Sigal enjoyed bucking, stopping at ditches and triple combinations, and dragging me down gravel roads in order to avoid being loaded in the trailer. She adopted Bob, our mini donkey, from a boarding facility. She loved to eat and was a hardy old school type of keeper. She was a master at opening stall doors and once let herself out and ate a 50 lb bag of grass seed plus a full bag of cow range cubes and had no issues with colic. Sigal was retired in 2003 due to an arthritic shoulder and given to my farrier’s 2 year old daughter in 2006. She is now a pasture puff and enjoying the easy life.

Sigal’s name: Sigal is Hebrew for a small purple flower. I did not find out the meaning of her name until after I bought her. It suited well because my favorite color is purple and Sigal and I would jam out to Tom Petty’s Wildflowers at events.
